FAQ

Answers to common questions about Zodiac, security, and getting started.

Security & Trust Model

Is Zodiac secure?

Zodiac is non-custodial by design. Assets remain in your Safe and are controlled by your keys. Zodiac extends Safe’s security model without modifying it; policies are enforced onchain by audited smart contracts, not by operational trust or centralized infrastructure.

The Zodiac Roles Modifier has undergone multiple security audits and is used in production by leading DAOs and treasury management teams.

Does Zodiac have access to my funds?

No. Zodiac never takes custody of assets. All permissions and controls are deployed and owned by you. Zodiac provides tooling to operate Safes more efficiently, but does not control them.

How are permissions enforced?

Permissions are defined as onchain policies via the Zodiac Roles Modifier. When a transaction is executed, the policy contract verifies that the action complies with the defined rules before allowing execution. This enforcement happens at the contract level, not through off-chain services.

Compatibility

What browsers are supported?

Zodiac Pilot is available for Chrome and Chromium-based browsers, including Brave, Opera, and Edge. The extension is desktop only.

Which networks are supported?

Zodiac supports all major EVM-compatible networks where Safe is deployed, including Ethereum mainnet, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, Gnosis Chain, Base, and others. Network availability is determined by Safe’s deployment footprint.

Does Zodiac work with any dapp?

Yes. Pilot can interact with any dapp interface. Transactions are recorded, simulated, and executed through your Safe without requiring custom integrations.

Getting Started

Do I need to migrate assets or deploy new contracts?

No. Zodiac works with existing Safe accounts. To enable policy enforcement, you’ll deploy a Roles Modifier as a Safe module, a standard operation that doesn’t require migrating assets or changing your Safe configuration.

Can I use Zodiac with an existing Safe?

Yes. Zodiac is designed to extend existing Safe accounts. Import your Safe into the Zodiac App, configure policies as needed, and use Pilot to execute transactions. No migration or asset transfer required.

How do I delegate execution to team members?

Create a policy that defines permitted actions, then assign members to execute under that policy via a role. Assigned members can execute transactions within policy bounds without requiring signer approval for each transaction. All execution is attributable and verifiable onchain.

Features

How is Zodiac different from using Safe directly?

Zodiac extends Safe with capabilities designed for operational scale:

  • Simulate before you sign: Preview exact outcomes, token flows, and state changes.
  • Batch multi-step workflows: Bundle actions across dapps into atomic bundles.
  • Delegate with guardrails: Operators execute within defined policies, without expanding signer access.
  • Works with any dapp: Build transactions from any interface, with no custom integrations required.

Safe provides secure custody. Zodiac provides the operational layer.

What is transaction simulation?

Simulation executes your transaction against a fork of the current blockchain state, showing expected outcomes without committing onchain. You’ll see token transfers, balance changes, contract interactions, and any potential errors before you sign.

Can I batch transactions across multiple dapps?

Yes. Pilot records each transaction as you navigate between dapps. When you’re ready, execute the entire sequence as a single atomic transaction. If any step fails, the entire batch reverts with no partial execution.

What are policies and roles?

A policy defines what actions are permitted: which contracts can be called, which functions can be invoked, and what parameter constraints apply. A role assigns members to execute under a specific policy. Together, they enable delegated execution with granular, verifiable controls.
